Schools and Sexting Education

Working together the legal and education fields can play a significant role in decreasing the number of sexting incidents through prevention efforts.  The Youth Online Safety Working Group (YOSWG) made several recommendations to schools and educators on methods to help them respond to and better manage sexting related issues:
  • Determine in advance the appropriate punishments for students in sexting incidents.
  • Determine when to involve school administrators, school personnel, law enforcement, and proscecuters in a sexting incident.
  • Educate school personnel on sexting and appropriate ways to respond to student sexting incidents.
  • Provide resources to educate students and parents about responsible use of mobile technology.
  • Promote sexting awareness and educate youth on sexting and possible social and legal implications.

How Our Diversion Program Works

The Sexting and Cell Phone Safety course was  developed by leading school and behavioral psychologists in order to provide schools and parents with needed resources to address this critical issue.

The course was designed as a web-based diversion program and is the first of its kind.  Because parent involvement is so critical to this issue, the program provides a course for both students and parents.  Schools across the country are using the course to:
  • Educate adolescents about safe cell phone practices and the dangers of engaging in promiscuous cell phone and online behavior.
  • Teach appropriate and  effective communication between adolescents.
  • Assist adolescents in developing healthy interpersonal relationships.
  • Educate adolescents and  parents about sexting and the legal and social dangers.
  • Educatie parents on how  to help promote appropriate and safe cell phone practices with their child.
